Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to the first session?
If you have a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP or psychiatrist you should bring these documents with you to the first session. If you are claiming a Medicare rebate, or claiming on your private health insurance, and you’d like to do the claim electronically in Joanna’s office, you will need your Medicare card or private insurance membership card.
What happens in the first session?
In the first session Joanna will ask questions about your life, your presenting problems and your history. The first couple of sessions allow for an assessment process, discussion of your goals for therapy, and discussion of appropriate treatment. This is a collaborative process, with client and therapist working together – a collaboration that continues throughout therapy. The first session or couple of sessions also provide the opportunity for both client and therapist to decide if we are a good fit, as the therapeutic relationship is an important aspect of successful therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends of the nature of your presenting problems and diagnosis, and your personal preparedness to practice different and creative ways of doing things. The number of sessions will be discussed in the first session.
Can I get a rebate for my sessions?
Yes, if you have a referral as part of a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP you can claim a rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Private health rebates can also be claimed – you will need to check with your insurer how much you will get. Joanna is registered as a provider with all major health funds, and with Medicare.
How can I pay?
Joanna’s office has electronic payment and rebate facility. You can pay by EFTPOS (credit or debit card), or by cash. A bank transfer can be accepted if prior arrangements are made with Joanna.
Do you provide after hours / evening appointments?
